Domestic violence can be psychological or verbal. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, abusers may say that a woman is always wrong or being unfaithful. Women might also realize that their partner is telling them how to dress and controlling their pocketbook. Although some behaviors may seem negligible, verbal and psychological abuse tend to get worse the longer a woman remains with her romantic partner.
Some women may think that physical abuse is the worst kind, but psychological abuse is sometimes as detrimental. Abusers may keep victims from seeing their family or issue threats to children and pets. Some women may witness the destruction of their belongings or experience online stalking.
