On Nov. 21, two Texas women were arrested on drug charges in Friendswood. One of the suspects faces additional charges for allegedly spitting in a police officer’s face. The incident happened shortly before 11 p.m.
According to authorities, an officer observed a vehicle sitting at a green light at the intersection of West Parkwood and Sunset and approached the vehicle to investigate. After asking the driver to roll down her window, the officer allegedly was able to smell marijuana and saw the passenger trying to hide something with her feet. As the officer called for backup, the passenger reportedly started yelling.
When another officer arrived at the scene, the passenger was told to exit the vehicle, but she allegedly became more hostile. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and reportedly discovered Xanax, crystal methamphetamine and cigarettes containing marijuana. A meth pipe was found under the floor mat on the passenger side of the vehicle.
Officers claim the passenger, age 23, struggled with them as they led her to the police cruiser. At one point, she allegedly spit in an officer’s face. The driver, age 20, said her friend was acting out of character and may have ingested an unknown drug while they were out clubbing. The driver, an Alvin resident, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. Her bond was set at $4,500. The passenger, also from Alvin, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, assault on a public servant and harassment of a public servant. Her bond was set at $13,500.
Those convicted of drug offenses may face stiff penalties, including incarceration and fines. However, a criminal defense attorney may choose to dispute the allegations by challenging the constitutionality of the search that led to the seizure of the drugs.
