Authorities in Texas arrested two people for possession of marijuana after police received a lead through the TIP411 line on July 31. Investigators claimed they identified two people in El Paso who allegedly possessed over 20 pounds of marijuana. Detectives pulled over the 24-year-old male suspect as he was driving a vehicle on Aug. 1. Police allegedly recovered 3.7 ounces of marijuana from inside the vehicle. Law enforcement then reportedly found 24 pounds of marijuana inside the suspect’s home.
Officers also apprehended an 18-year-old female who was residing at the address with the defendant. The two were arrested and now face charges of marijuana possession over 5 pounds and under 50 pounds. Both suspects were booked into El Paso County Detention Facility.
In the state of Texas, those accused of drug charges may receive serious penalties that can include a lengthy prison sentence. People who are accused of possessing less than 1 gram of a controlled substance may be charged with a fourth-degree felony and may face incarceration in a state jail. People who are accused of possessing between 1 and 4 grams may be charged with a second-degree felony. Anyone convicted of an enhanced first-degree felony, defined as possessing between 200 and 400 grams, may face a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison.
