A Harris County police chase ended once authorities took a man into custody late in the evening on June 3 for alleged speeding and erratic driving, according to officials. Authorities previously attempted to stop him when he drove through a red light, but the motorist reportedly did not comply with their request. Instead, he began a 25-minute chase throughout Houston on Interstate 45.
A representative with the Houston Police Department explained that the driver finally exited the interstate and into the jurisdiction of Harris County. Their deputies became involved and put spike strips on the road in an effort to apprehend the motorist. When authorities approached the vehicle, the driver backed up into an officer’s car as he allegedly attempted to flee once more. One vehicle tried to block him but clipped a tree in the process. No officers were apparently hurt during the chase.
The man, who was taken into custody on possible suspicion of driving while intoxicated, will probably face charges for fleeing from law enforcement officers. In addition, authorities are reportedly looking at his possible involvement with other crimes in the area.
If the man is convicted of additional crimes or possesses a criminal record, he may be facing multiple penalties. A defense attorney may question the evidence obtained in the case, including field sobriety examinations and subsequent breath and blood tests. If any errors in protocol are discovered in the police reports, the attorney may move to have evidence dismissed from the case altogether. In the event that he or she is successful, the defendant’s charges may be dropped or reduced.
