A custodian who was working at Texas A&M is facing serious charges related to crimes alleged to have been committed between October and November 2013. The 38-year-old woman is facing a combination of forgery and theft charges for over $1,300 that was reportedly stolen from the Emerging Technologies Building (ETB) of the university. Additionally, a warrant for criminal trespass was also issued to the accused for entering the ETB.
The series of events began back in November when three separate staff members at the college reported that checks had been stolen. Officers conducting an investigation into the report concluded that the checks had gone missing during October. It’s alleged that these checks were then cashed at local banks and a credit union in the town. Each of the checks were made out to a man, and police report that the signatures on the checks were forged.
In addition to the forgery charges the woman faces, she’s also accused of stealing a $400 gift card for Best Buy. Surveillance footage supposedly shows the woman, along with the man who the aforementioned checks were made out to, shopping in Best Buy before using the card. Best Buy even stated that the man used his customer profile to earn points on the purchases that were made. The school employee who noticed the card’s absence had contacted Best Buy and learned that the entire card had already been used up.
Theft and forgery can both be serious charges and may come with severe consequences. Those charged with theft or forgery may wish to work with an experienced defense lawyer who may be able to have charges reduced or dropped.
