Texas man returns to site of his alleged crimes, tries to buy gas

On Behalf of R. Todd Bennett, P.C. | Jan 5, 2015 | Theft & Property Crimes |

According to the Bridge City Police Department, officers detained a 22-year-old man in relation to a Dec. 30 robbery of a gas station convenience store. The armed incident was reported into authorities at approximately 10:50 p.m., officials said.

Reportedly, the 22-year-old man was inside the convenience store when he brandished a weapon and began demanding money, only to flee the premises on foot when with cash in hand . Officers at the scene were still investigating the reported robbery scene when the man reportedly returned in a pickup truck and attempted to purchase gasoline.

In this way the clerk identified identified to police the man who had just robbed the store. Upon questioning by the officers, the 22-year-old man made statements implicating himself in the reported robbery. Officers stated all of the money stolen in the robbery was recovered, and the man was taken into custody.

The severity of theft charges and the potential penalties that accompany them depend on multiple factors, two of the most prominent being the value of the property alleged to be stolen and the presence of a tool employed to issue either acts or threats or violence. Depending on the actual facts of an individual case, which will not manifest themselves until passed through the proper legal processes have taken place. The most optimal way a criminal defense attorney can help accused individuals in some cases has nothing to do with litigating or actual trials. For instance, when investigators and other law enforcement officials deliver to prosecutors’ desks cases that are comprised out nothing but concrete evidence and with an incorruptible foundation, the defense attorney may attempt to work out a plea deal that eliminates key charges and mitigates the worst penalties.
