Texas pair taken in on charges of stealing trailer

On Behalf of | Sep 24, 2013 | Theft & Property Crimes |

Bowie County Sheriff’s officials say that one of their law enforcement personnel observed a vehicle that seemed suspicious in Redwater’s Echo Hills subdivision on Sept. 18. The truck that the sheriff saw reportedly drove past him twice while headed in two different directions, and it ended up behind the sheriff as he was traveling on Bowie Parkway. When he yielded to let the truck pass, he saw that it was pulling a trailer that he hadn’t seen it towing before.

The sheriff pursued the vehicle as it continued into a Tex America lot. After deciding that the vehicle didn’t belong there, he radioed in for support. A deputy came to help stop the truck, but it allegedly fled. The vehicle eventually ended up in a driveway and the driver ran away on foot; the remaining two Texarkana men were detained on theft charges. The 47-year-old and the 50-year-old were booked into Bi-State Jail and had not been released at the time of reporting.

Although the truck’s driver has been identified, he had not been found shortly after the incident. Law enforcement officials have issued a statement requesting any information that would lead to his capture. Although the trailer’s registered owner did say that it had been stolen, police did not say that the men had confessed to stealing it or whether they had simply received it.

Theft charges can have serious long-term ramifications for the accused. Even when individuals haven’t been convicted, the fact that they’ve been taken into custody may cause them to lose their jobs or fall behind on their bills. These charges can also place serious strains on family relationships and compromise people’s eligibility for future employment. Criminal defense attorneys may be able to help accused individuals mitigate the negative effects of theft charges by contesting accusations in court or filing appeals.
