The highest court in Texas ruled on Nov. 25 that police officers must get a warrant or obtain consent before drawing blood. While there are certain situations when an officer may be able to draw blood without doing so, those situations are thought to be rare. In the past, a police officer could get away without getting a warrant in the event that a DWI accident resulted in bodily injury.

Bus driver faces DWI charges

A 61-year-old bus driver in Texas is now under investigation after she was detained for drunk driving. Officers claim the woman admitted to taking up to nine medications on a daily basis. However, the school district claims to have no knowledge of her prescription medications on record. Someone who gave the keys to the driver on the day of the crash stated that the woman appeared to be focused and coherent during the time before the incident.

DWI penalties in Texas

Motorists in Texas may benefit from learning more about the laws and penalties concerning alcohol-related offenses as described by the state's Department of Public Safety. Some of the common penalties include fines, jail time, license suspension and alcohol education classes. Anyone who is convicted of DWI may have their CDL license disqualified. Texas bus driver charged for DWI

A female bus driver in Texas was arrested for driving while intoxicated on Oct. 17. The incident occurred around 4 p.m. at the intersection of South Quinlan Park Road and Merlene Drive in Austin. The arrest happened after a homeowner in Steiner Ranch reported the 61-year-old woman for running over a mailbox, crashing into multiple tree branches and erratic driving. The woman had been employed as a Leander ISD school bus driver for five years.

Texas teen held on $1.1 bond in DWI case

A 17-year-old male allegedly struck a Chevrolet Impala off Expressway 83 and Victoria Road in Donna on Aug. 8. The collision with the man's Chevy pickup caused the Impala to roll, which caused the death of a 62-year-old woman inside of the car. Three other people in the car were also hurt, and one of the injured passengers was a child.

NFL player pleads guilty to drunk driving charge

Texas football player Ronald Leary was convicted of drunk driving as a result of an incident that took place in September 2012. After pleading guilty to the drunk driving charge, the Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman was given a sentence of 18 months probation. He may now have to face disciplinary action from the NFL that could include a suspension.

Houston police say that four people lost their lives in a crash that was likely caused by a driver suspected of driving while intoxicated on June 22. The accident was still being investigated by authorities by June 23.

Man detained for possible drinking and driving after chase

A Harris County police chase ended once authorities took a man into custody late in the evening on June 3 for alleged speeding and erratic driving, according to officials. Authorities previously attempted to stop him when he drove through a red light, but the motorist reportedly did not comply with their request. Instead, he began a 25-minute chase throughout Houston on Interstate 45.

Man found driving wrong way on I-75 charged with drunk driving

A 37-year-old Texas man was taken into police custody on March 16 after he was accused of driving the wrong way on Interstate 45 while under the influence of alcohol. According to the report, the incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. near Texas 242.

Woman charged in car accident that kills her relative

A Texas car accident has left one woman dead and another facing criminal charges. The accident happened at the intersection of Loop 410 and IH 10 East at approximately 2:30 a.m. on March 15. According to police, the 25-year-old woman was allegedly driving while intoxicated and veered her SUV to the right. That maneuver caused the SUV to roll over.
