This surge is caused by a lab tech shortage, as well as recent no-refusal BAC operations, according to a representative for the agency. He also stated that drug test processing times were averaging nine months by the end of 2012.

The man was previously convicted of drug offenses in 1999 and 2007, both of those being possession with intent to deliver cocaine between four grams and 200 grams.

Entertainment fans in Houston are watching as rapper 2 Chainz faces drug charges for felony possession of a controlled substance stemming from an incident on June 11, 2013, at LAX when he was reportedly transporting codeine, one of the main ingredients in a homemade drug called sizzurp. The drug is created by mixing strong cough syrup with a soft drink but can be up to 25 times as strong as prescription-strength cough syrup. The powerful drink is referenced in the songs of Southern rap artists.

Man facing drug charges in Texas drug bust worth $1.3M

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, an Oklahoma man is facing drug charges following a traffic stop that allegedly resulted in the seizure of methamphetamine worth over $1.3 million. A trooper reportedly found over 36 pounds of wrapped methamphetamine bundles hidden in the SUV's seats.

In McAllen, Texas, a U.S. district judge passed down a sentence to man who was convicted of drug charges in relation to a larger drug conspiracy case. The federal judge sentenced the man to serve seven and a half years in prison for the drug crime conviction.

A Texas woman who pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver was sentenced to 10 years in state prison on Feb. 5. The woman, 38, was ordered to pay $390.50 in court costs and another $140 in restitution. She had pleaded guilty on May 6, 2013, after she was arrested for delivering hydrocodone, a painkiller, to someone in Childress.

EMS worker charged with evading arrest, drug possession

A 39-year-old Texas paramedic was taken into custody for possession of drugs on Feb. 5 and later fired as a result. The drug charges include evading arrest and two counts of possession of a controlled substance. He has been detained on a bond of $25,000.

Texas psychiatrist indicted for drug crimes

A psychiatrist in Marble Falls has been indicted for allegedly prescribing and delivering drugs for non-medical purposes. The 84-year-old psychiatrist is accused of providing the drugs to two individuals on three separate occasions. He was booked at Burnet County Jail and charged for three counts of fraudulent delivery of a controlled substance.

Man gets 10 months for marijuana possession

A Texas traffic stop has led to a 10-month prison sentence for a 22-year-old man for alleged drug trafficking. The accused was pulled over by a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper in Van Zandt County in March 2013 for speeding. During the stop, the trooper reportedly detected the scent of marijuana. According to police reports, the trooper found nearly 4.5 kilograms of marijuana on the back floorboard as well as a loaded .40 caliber, semi-automatic pistol on the floor of the front driver's side of the car.
