Teenager facing serious drug charges

A 19-year-old teenager in Texas is currently waiting for prosecutors to present their case before a grand jury in late August. The teenager faces 10 years to life in prison since officers claimed to have found about 1.5 pounds of drugs in his possession. He was taken into custody after a neighbor in Round Rock reportedly smelled smoke and called police. Officers responding to the scene claim to have found the teenager making brownies mixed with hash oil and marijuana.

Tip leads cops to 24 pounds of marijuana

Authorities in Texas arrested two people for possession of marijuana after police received a lead through the TIP411 line on July 31. Investigators claimed they identified two people in El Paso who allegedly possessed over 20 pounds of marijuana. Detectives pulled over the 24-year-old male suspect as he was driving a vehicle on Aug. 1. Police allegedly recovered 3.7 ounces of marijuana from inside the vehicle. Law enforcement then reportedly found 24 pounds of marijuana inside the suspect's home.

4 killed in Houston accident involving suspected drunk driver

Houston police say that four people lost their lives in a crash that was likely caused by a driver suspected of driving while intoxicated on June 22. The accident was still being investigated by authorities by June 23.

Drug charge defense might depend on police dog

A narcotics task force operating in Texas has made a significant financial impact on groups and individuals committing drug offenses in the area. Officials reported that a task force composed of personnel drawn from local and federal law enforcement agencies seized more than $386,000 in less than a month. The police attribute the money to drug trafficking in the region.

Man turns himself in after Texas drug raid

A Graham man turned himself into law enforcement on May 1 following a drug trafficking sting in North Texas two days earlier, according to the Young County Sheriff's Office. Police said that the April 29 sting in the Dallas area involved arrest warrants for 30 suspects, 26 of whom were detained as a result of the sting. The Graham man was one of four people for whom police were still looking after the raid, police said.

Texas crime labs delays cause at least 21 false convictions

Lab work at the Texas Department of Public Safety's 13 labs has suffered a recent slowdown. This surge is caused by a lab tech shortage, as well as recent no-refusal BAC operations, according to a representative for the agency. He also stated that drug test processing times were averaging nine months by the end of 2012.

Man gets 10 months for marijuana possession

A Texas traffic stop has led to a 10-month prison sentence for a 22-year-old man for alleged drug trafficking. The accused was pulled over by a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper in Van Zandt County in March 2013 for speeding. During the stop, the trooper reportedly detected the scent of marijuana. According to police reports, the trooper found nearly 4.5 kilograms of marijuana on the back floorboard as well as a loaded .40 caliber, semi-automatic pistol on the floor of the front driver's side of the car.

Three taken into custody on drug charges

Three Texas residents were taken into police custody shortly after midnight on September 7 at a Holiday Inn on West Bay Area Boulevard in Houston. One of the individuals was recently released after serving a one-year prison sentence in Lyncher State Jail in Humble, Texas. The 32-year-old man had been sentenced to Lyncher after pleading guilty to charges stemming from a 2011 robbery. He also had earlier convictions for cocaine possession, methamphetamine possession and possession with intent to deliver.

A traffic accident led to an overturned tanker truck and chemical spill in Harris County on Sept. 3. In relation to the accident, one man from Cypress is facing charges for driving while intoxicated after being believed to have caused the wreck.

Texas football player's DUI bond is revoked

Houston residents may be interested to know that even high-profile celebrities are not immune to DUI charges. According to Fox Sports News, prosecutors intend to revoke the bond previously issued to Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle, Josh Brent, after he was charged with DUI manslaughter. Prosecutors report that Josh Brent consumed alcohol and then attempted to hide its presence in his body, thereby violating the conditions of his bond.
