On June 15, a 37-year-old Texas roofer was taken into custody after he was accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from homeowners. According to the report, homeowners made payments to the man to fix their roofs and then he would refuse to answer their calls.
The pursuit of an alleged thief in Abilene on Dec. 28 ended in the backyard of a residential house. According to information provided to Abilene police by the employees of a pawn shop located on Ambler Avenue, a 44-year-old man entered the store at approximately 9:30 a.m., took possession of a handgun and ran out of the shop with it.
Authorities say that a 32-year-old man, a 35-year-old man and a 42-year-old man, all from Odessa, were indicted on eight charges of access device fraud. A fourth man from Gardendale was also included in the indictment. Three of the suspects were taken into custody on July 13 while the last suspect was taken into custody on July 14.
The Houston Police Department and other law enforcement agencies in the area took action to bring down a large group of organized thieves that had been plaguing the community. Police arrested 130 people who allegedly participated in the theft of small trailers.
Houston residents may be interested in a case that is unfolding closer to the central part of the state. According to a report published on June 8, three people were taken into police custody and face aggravated robbery and possession of marijuana charges following an incident in Hays County. A minor who was also detained in connection with the incident was released to the custody of a parent pending further questioning.
A former Texas Tech backup offensive lineman was taken into police custody on May 27. The 20-year-old man was charged with burglary of a habitation for an incident that took place towards the end of 2015. Representatives from Texas Tech did not comment on the matter, but the school did confirm that the man had already been dismissed from its football team.
Thieves have reportedly been targeting pickup trucks in the northern part of Texas recently. Sources report that there have been 2,440 pickup trucks stolen in the state since the beginning of the year.
Two individuals, a man and a woman, were taken into custody by police in the early morning hours of March 25 for theft and fraud. The two individuals, both in their 30's, were allegedly attempting to steal items from the Walmart located at Amarillo Boulevard and Gem Lake Road in Amarillo.
On Jan. 27, Texas authorities reported that three individuals who robbed a Houston gas station in September had not yet been identified. The three men reportedly arrived at the gas station in a white Mercedes SUV, which they used as a getaway vehicle.
Forgery in the state of Texas falls under the category of theft. It is also a form of fraud. Someone who commits forgery with the intent to deceive could be charged with fraud or theft, but the intent to deceive is an important component of the charge in most jurisdictions.
