Man accused of marijuana possession after raid

On Aug. 23, a 29-year-old Texas man was taken into custody after 355 pounds of marijuana was allegedly found at his home in Laredo. According to the Webb County Sheriff's Office Organized Crime Unit, an investigation they conducted led them to the man's home. When investigators arrived at the residence, they encountered the accused man and a woman. Reports indicate that one more person might be charged in connection to this drug possession case.

Investigators were reportedly given permission to search the trailer home when they arrived in the early morning hours. During the search, they allegedly found 17 packages of marijuana that had been hidden beneath the home. The estimated street value of the drugs seized is believed to be over $180,000.

The man was detained and charged for possession of marijuana in a drug free zone. Following the incident, the Webb County sheriff made a public statement urging citizens to report suspicious activity. He stated that the agency's goal was to ensure that the streets were kept safe.

Although marijuana is not legal in Texas, there is an acceptance of the drug for medical and recreational use in other states. This acceptance alone may not be enough to base an entire defense on, but it may, when taken in account with other circumstances, have some relevancy. A criminal defense attorney may be able to help an accused individual to work out a plea deal by presenting evidence that the person has never committed any drug crimes involving other substances such as methamphetamine or crack cocaine.
