Scientists able to establish cocaine use from fingerprints

Texas residents may be surprised to learn that scientists have developed a means of establishing a person's cocaine use by performing chemical tests on their fingerprints. Researchers say that these tests would provide a less invasive and more hygienic alternative to traditional drug testing methods, and they say that portable testing kits could be available to law enforcement personnel within a decade. The research was published in a scientific journal in May 2015.

Texas mom faces drug charges related to death of son's girlfriend

On March 19, Houston police arrested a 40-year-old mother on suspicion of manufacturing and providing controlled substances and alcohol to a teen who died in May 2014 in a hotel after her prom. Her son had already been charged with aggravated assault related to the death of his girlfriend. According to a grand jury indictment, his mother allegedly gave and offered to sell the teen girl hydrocodone on the night of the prom. The woman's court date was set for March 23, and her son was required to appear in court on March 31.

Man arrested for heroin distribution in Gladewater

A man has been taken into custody by police officers from the northeast Texas town of Gladewater. He has been charged with a variety of crimes related to the possessions and distribution of narcotics. The police have announced that this marks the conclusion of an ongoing investigation.

Teacher and husband detained in drug case

A 29-year-old Texas science teacher and her 33-year-old husband are facing multiple charges for allegedly possessing and distributing drugs as part of an ongoing investigation. The two were detained on Sept. 12 after a SWAT team and a special investigations unit deployed by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office went to the couple's apartment with a search warrant. Only the woman's husband was home at the time, and police later took her into custody at the school where she taught.

3 accused of smoking cocaine in front of a young child

Three people were taken into custody by Texas authorities after they were accused of smoking cocaine in front of a 3-year-old child on Sept. 4. According to the report, the police found the three individuals at a motel room located on the Northwest Freeway in Harris County.

Teenager facing serious drug charges

A 19-year-old teenager in Texas is currently waiting for prosecutors to present their case before a grand jury in late August. The teenager faces 10 years to life in prison since officers claimed to have found about 1.5 pounds of drugs in his possession. He was taken into custody after a neighbor in Round Rock reportedly smelled smoke and called police. Officers responding to the scene claim to have found the teenager making brownies mixed with hash oil and marijuana.

Tip leads cops to 24 pounds of marijuana

Authorities in Texas arrested two people for possession of marijuana after police received a lead through the TIP411 line on July 31. Investigators claimed they identified two people in El Paso who allegedly possessed over 20 pounds of marijuana. Detectives pulled over the 24-year-old male suspect as he was driving a vehicle on Aug. 1. Police allegedly recovered 3.7 ounces of marijuana from inside the vehicle. Law enforcement then reportedly found 24 pounds of marijuana inside the suspect's home.
