Pickup trucks reportedly hot targets for thefts

Thieves have reportedly been targeting pickup trucks in the northern part of Texas recently. Sources report that there have been 2,440 pickup trucks stolen in the state since the beginning of the year.

Those numbers were current as of the March numbers, which were recently released. The number is expected to climb when the numbers for April are also released. Pickup trucks manufactured by Ford have been stolen with the greatest frequency. Across the state, 480 had been stolen as of the end of March. Twenty-two of those trucks were stolen in Northern Texas, according to sources, and half of those were Ford F250 models.

Trucks made by General Motors followed with 343 stolen statewide since the beginning of the year. Dodge trucks rounded out the top three at 180 stolen during the same time period. Recently, law enforcement authorities reportedly discovered $50,000 worth of stolen vehicles in Tarrant County at a chop shop located in a residential neighborhood.

Theft crimes may have far-reaching consequences extending long after any sentence is completed. People who are facing theft charges may face prison terms, restitution payments, fines and other penalties. After a person who is convicted completes his or her sentence, he or she may have to deal with negative consequences for much of his or her life. People with theft convictions may have problems finding work, obtaining credit and securing housing. When a person is charged with theft, he or she may want to consult with a criminal defense attorney in order to learn about his or her rights. A lawyer may be able to secure dismissal of the charges or a plea offer to a lesser offense.
