Man and woman charged with theft from Texas Walmart

Two individuals, a man and a woman, were taken into custody by police in the early morning hours of March 25 for theft and fraud. The two individuals, both in their 30's, were allegedly attempting to steal items from the Walmart located at Amarillo Boulevard and Gem Lake Road in Amarillo.

According to information released by investigators, at approximately 4:15 am, officers responded to a call reporting a man and woman changing the price tags on different items at the 24-hour Walmart store. In addition, the officers also claim to have found evidence that the two individuals, a 37-year-old man and 31-year-old woman, were hiding electronic merchandise within the boxes and packaging of other items in order to exit the store without purchasing them. Police also suspect the two individuals might have been using a stolen credit card to buy the items which contained the hidden merchandise that they purportedly intended to steal.

The man and woman were transported to the Potter County Detention Center where they were booked on charges of misdemeanor theft and fraud for the alleged stolen merchandise. No charges were immediately filed in relation to the use of what was believed to be a stolen credit card because the case is still under investigation.

In the state of Texas, a misdemeanor or felony theft charge conviction can potentially become part of a person's permanent criminal record and can have far reaching consequences. However, in some cases, an attorney may be able assist an individual accused of theft crimes by working to reduce the future impact of their charges on personal, professional or educational opportunities later on.
