Texas woman accused of selling cocaine and other drugs

On Nov. 9, a 19-year-old Texas woman was reportedly taken into custody after authorities found drugs inside her College Station apartment. In addition to five different types of drugs, police also allegedly found drug packaging material and a drug price list in the woman's bedroom.

During the search, authorities stated that they found more than 31 grams of cocaine, 126 grams of marijuana, 60 doses of a drug that is similar to LSD, "ecstasy" tablets and methamphetamine. Police also noted that the woman admitted to being in possession of the cocaine and marijuana but a search of her phone indicated that she was also selling drugs.

She was ultimately charged with three counts of manufacturing or delivering a controlled substance and drug possession. She was released from Brazos County Jail after posting $39,000 bail.

People who are charged with drug trafficking will often face significant penalties if they are convicted, including fines and possibly lengthy incarceration. They may also have difficulty finding appropriate housing or gainful employment after they have been released. Accordingly, they may want to obtain the assistance of a criminal defense attorney.

There may be various defense strategies that the attorney can employ. Depending on the circumstances surrounding the case, the attorney may be able to argue that the authorities did not have probable cause to search the defendant's property, making the drugs that were seized inadmissible as evidence in court. In other cases, the attorney might be able to negotiate an agreement with the prosecutor that would involve a guilty plea to a lesser offense in exchange for a reduction in the severity of the penalties that would have otherwise been assessed.
