2 Texas women taken into custody for theft

Police say that two females taken into custody on Oct. 16 confessed to 50 break-ins across multiple cities in northern portion of Texas. Authorities first made contact with the women after a traffic stop that took place at 4 a.m. that morning after an illegal lane change. When police approached their vehicle, they saw power tools, a vice grip and a lock cutter.

In addition, police found drugs and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. During a search of the car after they were taken into custody, police found a notebook with thorough records of the crimes that they had allegedly committed and plans for future thefts. The pair confessed to the crimes after they were shown the notebook. While authorities have evidence tying the women to at least 50 break-ins, it is believed that they will be linked to other thefts after a more thorough investigation can be completed.

Authorities say that some of the stolen merchandise had been sold at pawnshops and that much of it was to be sold during a garage sale. A representative from the Carrollton Police Department said that three U-Haul trucks full of merchandise had been removed from a home that belonged to the women.

Those who are facing larceny charges may wish to consult with an attorney about creating a defense strategy. It may be possible to argue that merchandise found on a person had been borrowed with permission or had been paid for already. It may also be possible to argue that an individual had permission to take property and pay for it over time. This may be enough to earn an acquittal or have the charge dropped or reduced before a trial begins.
