Texas police chase results in 3 arrests

On Behalf of | Feb 12, 2015 | Theft & Property Crimes |

As Texas residents may know, a police chase in Dallas on Feb. 4 resulted in the apprehension of three individuals. According to sheriff’s deputies from Dallas County, the fleeing vehicle had been stolen the previous month.

The driver of the GMC Terrain, 34, and a passenger, 21, reportedly attempted to flee from the vehicle but were apprehended. Both have been charged with evading arrest, and the driver was additionally charged with unauthorized use of the vehicle. The other two passengers, a male and female, remained in the vehicle when it stopped. However, the male passenger was arrested at the scene for outstanding warrants. The woman was released.

The chase took place when a detective spotted a stolen vehicle taken from the airport on Jan. 12, which reportedly may have belonged to a rental agency. As the detective attempted to pull the vehicle over around Keeneland Parkway and Walton Walker, the GMC Terrain sped off, at times allegedly reaching high speeds. It was pursued by sheriff’s deputies in the city’s Medical District. During the chase, packages were reportedly being tossed out the windows.

Two tires from the pursued Terrain blew out when it struck another vehicle. The GMC Terrain eventually stopped near Northwest Highway and Community around 10:30 a.m. where the occupants of the vehicle were apprehended.

Auto theft and fleeing police, as in this case, may have harsh consequences in Texas and lead to serious penalties, including a long prison sentence and paying restitution. An individual facing theft charges may benefit from consultation with an attorney. An attorney may examine police reports and whether appropriate protocol was followed in a defense strategy to have the case dismissed. An attorney may also negotiate a plea deal to lower charges and penalties.
