Alleged meth ring busted in Texas

According to officials with the Pecos County Sheriff's Department, multiple individuals who are accused of running a meth ring in Fort Stockton were arrested on Feb. 19. The bust came after a month-long investigation.

Reportedly, a total of nine people were taken into custody. Law enforcement officers initially were able to obtain search and arrest warrants for four people. While executing those warrants, officers reportedly developed additional information leading to the arrest of five more.

Multiple agencies were reportedly involved in the execution of the search warrants. In addition to the Pecos County Sheriff's Department, investigators from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force and the Department of Homeland Security all assisted. The sheriff's office indicated that more arrests may follow. The people were taken into custody on charges of participating in organized crime and methamphetamine distribution. According to the spokesman, several also had outstanding warrants from other cases. Although information regarding individual bond amounts has not been released, the sheriff's department indicated bonds normally range from $10,000 to $50,000 for people charged with similar offenses.

When people are accused of crimes like distribution, it is important to mount an aggressive drug charge defense early on in the process. Those who are accused should be mindful of their constitutional rights to remain silent and to request an attorney. If people state they want an attorney, law enforcement officers must immediately cease attempting to question them. People sometimes make the mistake of believing they can talk themselves out of charges, but that does not normally work. Instead, most people benefit by asserting their rights and then seeking the help of a criminal defense attorney who has experience in drug cases as soon as possible.
