Two Texas individuals are facing drug-related charges, and one or both may also face charges linked to counterfeiting. The 35-year-old man and 30-year-old woman were taken into custody on Sept. 23. Citizens had complained to authorities about drugs being sold at their residence in Dayton, and the Liberty County Sheriff Department’s Criminal Interdiction Unit executed the search warrant.
At the residence, authorities allegedly found pills of Soma, Xanax and hydrocodone as well as 73 grams of marijuana and 15 tabs of ecstasy. Authorities also allege that the man was responsible for the $2,550 in counterfeit bills they recovered, and it is believed that more counterfeit money may be in circulation throughout the community. Deputies also seized $2,612 in cash during the search.
The Secret Service is reportedly involved in the ongoing investigation into the counterfeiting. Currently, the man is charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance, and the woman is facing charges for possession of a dangerous drug.
If either or both of the individuals decide to work with an attorney, the attorney may first look at the execution of the search warrants and how the two were taken into custody. The case may not be able to proceed if any aspect of the investigation was illegal.
Due to the seriousness of the drug offenses, the individuals may also wish to try to work out a plea deal. In such a case, either or both might be able to have their sentences reduced in exchange for pleading guilty to less severe charges.
Sometimes, individuals may also have the opportunity to testify against one another or against others in related schemes in exchange for a lighter sentence. An attorney might be able to advise their client on the most effective approach to defense based on the specifics of their case.
