3 accused of smoking cocaine in front of a young child

Three people were taken into custody by Texas authorities after they were accused of smoking cocaine in front of a 3-year-old child on Sept. 4. According to the report, the police found the three individuals at a motel room located on the Northwest Freeway in Harris County.

Authorities stated that they went to the motel after family members reported that they had not heard from their female family member who had a 3-year-old child in her possession. When they arrived at the room, police stated that they could smell the drugs. As a result, the three adult occupants who were present were taken into custody.

All three individuals were charged with possession of a controlled substance. In addition, the mother of the 3-year-old was charged with endangering a child after allowing illegal substances to be within close proximity. At the time the report was released, the mother was still being held in custody on a $35,000 bond while the other two individuals were being held on a $15,000 bond and a $2000 bond.

Someone who is facing a drug charge may also be facing serious consequences that could include a jail sentence, probation and expensive fines. Depending upon the person's circumstances, an attorney may be able to help them reduce the potential consequences by either fighting the charges or negotiating a deal that is more favorable to their client. For example, if the accused person was not actually in possession of drugs and toxicology evidence shows that they did not use the drug, the attorney may be able to have the charges dropped. If the prosecution has strong evidence against the accused person, however, the attorney may be able to help their client seek addiction counseling by negotiating a deal.
