Drug charge arrests in Texas

On Behalf of | May 12, 2014 | Drug Charges |

Deputies in Llano County arrested two men on two separate drug charges one day apart. The arrests occurred on May 3 and May 4. In the first case, a drug detection dog allegedly discovered 44 grams of what appeared to be methamphetamine after the people in a vehicle at a traffic stop in the 200 block of Highland Loop behaved nervously. One 22-year-old man was arrested and charged with possession of controlled substance with intent to deliver.

In the second case, deputies responded to a tip regarding a man who had an outstanding felony warrant. Deputies allegedly located the 53-year-old man with 20 grams of methamphetamine and more than $1,000 in cash. In addition to having outstanding warrants in three counties, the man was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

The man in the first case was released on bond. According to law enforcement, the man in the second case has had several drug arrests as part of a long criminal record. In one of the counties in which he has an outstanding warrant, the man has no bond, so even if he successfully posted bond for his other charges, he would be transferred to the no-bond county and jailed.

Both of these men may benefit from the assistance of a criminal defense attorney due to these drug charges. The second case might be more complex than the first due to the multiple charges. In the first case, an attorney might argue that the initial search and seizure was illegal if the deputies did not have sufficient cause to do so. One option for both men may be a plea bargain. This might allow them to plead guilty in exchange for a reduced sentence.
