Texas man imprisoned on drug charges

In McAllen, Texas, a U.S. district judge passed down a sentence to man who was convicted of drug charges in relation to a larger drug conspiracy case. The federal judge sentenced the man to serve seven and a half years in prison for the drug crime conviction.

This sentence was based on a conviction of one count of drug possession with intent to sell or distribute. However, the arrest was based on part of an investigation into a large drug conspiracy case. This drug conspiracy case involved corruption in law enforcement agencies. In the larger investigation, 12 individuals were indicted, including several law enforcement professionals.

The man who was recently sentenced in this case was the first individual who was named in the large drug conspiracy case indictment to be sentenced for the charges he faced. While he was convicted of the single drug charge against him, the judge's ruling indicated that the man had no involvement in the larger drug conspiracy case. The man was already serving part of a 10-year sentence on unrelated charges, and the new sentence will be served in conjunction with the pre-existing sentence.

Drug charges in Texas are serious, and individuals who are convicted may be sentenced to serve many years behind bars or face other penalties. Regardless of the evidence against an individual who faces drug charges, a strong defense against the charges may be developed that may result in a lighter sentence or the reduction of charges against the individual. Those who are interested in learning more about their legal options and who would like professional assistance and representation in their case may contact a Houston criminal lawyer for assistance. The lawyer may begin developing a defense against the drug charges the individual faces.
