Agents seize 778 marijuana plants in Texas

On Oct. 13, news sources reported that six people were taken into custody in Texas in connection with grow house operations in two counties. During their investigation, agents reportedly seized 778 marijuana plants with an estimated street value of approximately $2.3 million. The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office characterized the grow operations as "sophisticated".

The illicit system comprised residences in four different neighborhoods in two counties. Reports indicate that in addition to the marijuana, agents also recovered a variety of items that are used in the manufacturing, packaging and distribution of cannabis, including inverters, fans, water pumps, scales and indoor growing lights.

In a press release, authorities indicated that three of the homes were used to conduct the indoor operations. Agents discovered that the fourth residence was housing cultivated product and weapons, as well as an undisclosed amount of currency. In Harris County, three men were detained on felony charges of delivery of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. A 27-year-old man, 35-year-old man and 37-year-old man in Houston were charged with possession of marijuana, which is a felony of the second degree.

Texas residents who find themselves charged with drug offenses may find it beneficial to meet with a criminal defense attorney in order to determine how best to counter the allegations. An attorney may be able to identify deficiencies in the prosecution's case or any possible violations of the defendant's constitutional rights when the evidence was seized that could possibly lead to a beneficial outcome.
