Artie Lange arrested for drugs

Texans who are fans of the comedian and former "Howard Stern Show" regular Artie Lange might be interested in learning that he was recently arrested for possessing heroin, cocaine and drug paraphernalia. The arrest reportedly happened in a garage in Hoboken, New Jersey.

Officers with the Hoboken Police Department reportedly responded to the garage on a report of a person attempting to enter a vehicle. The police allege that they saw drugs in plain view inside of the car. They also allege that Lange approached them and said that the car was his. Police reported that they found more drugs on Lange's person when they searched him.

Lange has a long history involving drug abuse. He has frequently discussed his issues with drugs. He stated that he was treated well by the police in Hoboken and thanked them for their professionalism.

People who are facing charges of drug possession may face harsh penalties if they are convicted. Some possession offenses are felonies carrying the potential for years of imprisonment. Criminal law attorneys may work to defend their clients in order to help them to get the best possible resolutions to their charges. In cases like Lange's, the attorneys may try to secure agreements for their clients to be sent to treatment rather than to prison. Attorneys may also challenge how the drugs had been seized if the police do not have warrants to search or the consent of the defendant. If the suppression of the evidence is granted at a motions hearing, the charges may end up being dismissed.
