Eight arrested in Hockley drug raid

Eight Texas residents, including four people from the same family, were arrested after Montgomery County authorities executed a search warrant at a residential property on Nov. 28. The bust took place in the Hockley area.

According to the Montgomery County Precinct 5 Constable's Office, officers searched a home on the 23000 block of Brushy Pine and seized more than 95 grams of methamphetamine. They also confiscated a gun and over $1,400 in cash. Twelve people were found at the location during the raid, and eight were arrested. A 33-year-old man, his 52-year-old mother, his 25-year-old brother and 23-year-old sister were among those taken into custody. The defendants were transported to Montgomery County Jail and charged with various drug crimes, including possession of methamphetamine and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Authorities say the property has been raided for drug crimes before. In 2015, police seized more than 100 grams of methamphetamine from the 33-year-old defendant.

A conviction on these types of drug offenses can carry harsh penalties, including lengthy prison terms and steep fines. As a result, people who are facing these charges may want to contact a criminal defense attorney immediately after their arrest. An attorney could protect a client's rights throughout the legal process and while building a defense strategy based on the circumstances of the case. For example, legal counsel may discover police overstepped the scope of the warrant, which could lead to some of the evidence being ruled inadmissible at trial and severely weakening the prosecution's case as a result.
