Alleged thief located behind home

The pursuit of an alleged thief in Abilene on Dec. 28 ended in the backyard of a residential house. According to information provided to Abilene police by the employees of a pawn shop located on Ambler Avenue, a 44-year-old man entered the store at approximately 9:30 a.m., took possession of a handgun and ran out of the shop with it.

The employees chased after the man, who headed toward the 2000 block of Victoria Street. After the man dropped the handgun, the employees were able to retrieve stolen merchandise. The man then escaped from their view.

Law enforcement officers as well as a K-9 unit were called to the area, and a search began for the suspect. The man was soon located hiding behind a home on Victoria Street.

The man was taken to the Taylor County Jail and booked for the theft of a firearm and the unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. He is being held on bonds that total $22,500.

An individual who has been arrested and charged with theft crimes may want to seek the services of a criminal defense attorney. The attorney may review all aspects of the case, including whether law enforcement officials acted according to the law in their investigation and arrest. The attorney may also closely review police reports and speak with witnesses to obtain information that may help them have a better view of the case.

If a client's rights were violated, the attorney may file the appropriate legal motions to have the charges reversed or reduced. The attorney could also use a court trial to try to prove the innocence of a client.
