Drunk driving case results in probation for Ray Bourque

Texas fans of hockey player Ray Bourque may have heard that the 55-year-old ex-player was facing OUI charges in connection with an incident June 25. The incident occurred in Massachusetts, and although no one was injured, a van that Bourque hit was damaged. Police reports said that his blood alcohol content was over the legal limit at .249.

In the first hearing, Bourque pleaded not guilty. However, at a later hearing, he gave an "admission of sufficient fact." This is an acknowledgement that there is enough evidence to convict him. It means that after a year of probation, the case will be resolved without a conviction being entered on Bourque's record.

He faces 180 days of license suspension as a result of not taking a chemical test after he was detained and another 45 days on top of that. He also issued a statement in which he expressed regret for his actions and said that he would take responsibility for the incident.

In addition to the legal implications of a drunk driving charge, such charges can often result in damage to a person's career, standing in the community or even their educational progress. As a result, for some people facing DWI charges, exploring options such as this one that do not result in a conviction on a person's record may be important. A person who is charged with DWI may wish to discuss their goals and concerns with their attorney. For example, a client may be less concerned with getting charges removed from their record and more concerned with fewer penalties.
