3 Texas men detained in drug bust

Three men were taken into custody by Fort Bend County officials on the evening of June 9, 2016. The authorities were executing a warrant at the time after investigating drug activity in a residence, and the effort also resulted in the confiscation of more than $50,000 in illegal drugs. Two of the men detained are 25 years old, and the third is 23.

The drug charges filed in the case include first and second degree counts at the felony level for each of the three men. These felony charges relate to alleged coordination of the delivery of the drugs in question, which carry the potential for incarceration. Possession charges, which are misdemeanors, are also at issue.

The controlled substances found at the scene included nearly 2,000 Ecstasy tablets, cocaine, and morphine. Authorities also seized firearms and money. Two of the men face at least eight separate charges each. The third man faces similar charges in addition to several charges related to firearm possession involving a felon. Bond amounts were not initially reported.

Because drug activity is a serious concern in communities, the charges and penalties related to drug offenses can be quite substantial. Additionally, bond amounts can be high. An individual facing such charges might find it difficult or even impossible to gather the resources needed to post bond in such a situation. An attorney could be helpful in arguing for a reduced bond amount based on various personal circumstances related to the defendant. Legal counsel also may be able to identify weaknesses in a prosecutor's case, which could help in arguing for the dismissal of some or all of the charges. It might also be possible to seek a plea deal for a client who is willing to cooperate with authorities in providing testimony or other information that can help in identifying more serious offenders.
