A woman from Falls County in Texas was handed several drug charges on Sept. 13 after sheriff’s deputies found her inside a home in Leroy that she did not have permission to visit. According to the property owner, he discovered the 56-year-old Falls County woman in his home while she was attempting to abscond with a piece of antique furniture. The homeowner reportedly detained the woman before McLennan County Sheriff’s deputies arrived.
When the deputies were questioning the accused woman, she reportedly admitted that she had entered the property owner’s storage building prior to entering his home. During the conversation, deputies say that they found over 100 different pills in her possession. The collection of pills included several different kinds of narcotics and resulted in multiple drug possession charges.
After she was taken to McLennan County Jail, the woman received one charge each for possession of codeine, hydrocodone, phentermine, clonazepam, phendimetrazine, pramipexole and venlafaxine. She was also charged for fraudulent possession of identifying documents and with burglary of a habitation. The woman was released from custody after posting $15,000 bond.
People who have been issued drug possession charges without any charges for intent to sell or drug trafficking may be able to work out a plea deal that does not involve any jail time. A criminal defense attorney may be able to assist in negotiating an agreement with the prosecutor that includes drug rehabilitation treatment as an alternative sentence. By agreeing to enter a drug rehabilitation program, some defendants are able to have their charges reduced or dismissed.
