Police charge 2 men with aggravated robbery

On Behalf of | Feb 16, 2015 | Theft & Property Crimes |

According to law enforcement authorities in Texas, two men were charged with aggravated robbery following an incident that reportedly occurred on Feb. 4 in the Katy area of Fort Bend County. The alleged aggravated robbery occurred at a Lifetime Fitness facility around 6:30 p.m.

According to reports, two men, both age 23, entered the facility and stole multiple cellphones from various guests of the fitness center. Upon their suspicions being aroused, people from inside the fitness center followed the two men outside into the parking lot. The men got into their car. When another person tried to stop them from leaving, the men struck that man and then hit a car that was also blocking their exit. The two then reportedly got out of the vehicle, leaving it behind before fleeing on foot.

Responding officers canvassed the area. Upon checking a nearby Kroger’s grocery store, they allegedly contacted the two men in the bathroom. Officers then searched the bathroom and reported they found five cellphones in the trash bin. The men were arrested and charged with aggravated robbery. Both were in custody in the Fort Bend County Jail. Bond had not been set for either man at the time of the report.

Penalties for theft charges vary depending on the amount stolen and how the object was taken. When a person uses force to flee after committing a theft offense, they may be charged with a felony carrying the potential for a lengthy prison sentence. Those who are accused of a crime have the right to an attorney and a right to defend against the allegations against them. Many people who are charged choose to seek help from a criminal defense attorney, as they may have a better understanding of how to defend against the state’s case.
