Lab work at the Texas Department of Public Safety's 13 labs has suffered a recent slowdown. This surge is caused by a lab tech shortage, as well as recent no-refusal BAC operations, according to a representative for the agency. He also stated that drug test processing times were averaging nine months by the end of 2012.

2 Texas residents facing drug charges

After a citizen called police to report a suspicious vehicle, two individuals were taken into custody in Anderson County on April 13. The pair were charged with drug offenses and public intoxication. An Anderson County sheriff's deputy received a call at 7:55 p.m. regarding a blue Kia Sportage parked in front of a gate.

Residential search leads to 25-year sentence on drug charge

Texas authorities report that a 41-year-old man was sentenced to serve 25 years in prison after he was convicted of various drug-related offenses. Due to the man's record of prior felony convictions, 25 years was the minimum sentence that his case would have allowed. The man was previously convicted of drug offenses in 1999 and 2007, both of those being possession with intent to deliver cocaine between four grams and 200 grams.

Rapper 2 Chainz faces drug charges

Entertainment fans in Houston are watching as rapper 2 Chainz faces drug charges for felony possession of a controlled substance stemming from an incident on June 11, 2013, at LAX when he was reportedly transporting codeine, one of the main ingredients in a homemade drug called sizzurp. The drug is created by mixing strong cough syrup with a soft drink but can be up to 25 times as strong as prescription-strength cough syrup. The powerful drink is referenced in the songs of Southern rap artists.

Man found driving wrong way on I-75 charged with drunk driving

A 37-year-old Texas man was taken into police custody on March 16 after he was accused of driving the wrong way on Interstate 45 while under the influence of alcohol. According to the report, the incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. near Texas 242.
